About The 3D4Kardia Project

Α Digital Library based on 3D Modelling and 3D Printing for the
Pre-Surgery Assessment of Cardiac Diseases

The main idea for 3D4KARDIA is to investigate the individualized evaluation of clinical cases aiming in the optimization of the preparation for surgery, evaluating and selecting the most appropriate surgical/interventional approach, as well as the training of the medical team. Based on these objectives and the clinical research that will be carried out within the project, a detailed library of 3D digital models of clinical heart cases coupled with the corresponding 3D printing model will be created, which will provide the following services: a) Modeling and simulation of numerous clinical cardiac diseases, applying CT and MRI scans to real cases and their automatic digital reconstruction, b) Personalized surgical treatment through the use of digital and 3D Printed models with the most appropriate and representative biocompatible printing materials and (c) Representation of cardiac diseases using innovative virtual and augmented reality technologies providing a useful platform for training surgical teams as well as the analysis of invasive and surgical approaches.

The project 3D4KARDIA was implemented in the context of the Action RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE and co-financed by the European Union and national resources through the OP. Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPANEK).

The project started in November 2021 and is expected to be completed in November 2023.

Scientific coordinator is Dr. Konstantinos Votis from CERTH/ITI.
